Norwegian, born and raised among high mountains and deep fiords on the western coast of Norway. At an early stage I developed a fascination for hiking in the mountains, and I feel at home amidst naked rocks, moss and colourful mountain flowers . Ironically, therefore, I and my family happened to settle down in a small community deep in the pine forests of the Namdalen valley some 200 miles north of Trondheim . This was more than thirty years ago, and here we have remained. Luckily, there are some mountains here as well, although not as impressing as the ones I grew up with. Moreover, I have got used to the dark forests, and find peace and inspiration in the landscape surrounding us. In short, I am an ardent nature lover, and I don`t feel at home in urban settings.

By profession I am a teacher in comprehensive school. When we came to the Namdalen valley in 1975 I discovered to my surprise that the school at which I was going to teach was equipped with a darkroom that had not been in use for a couple of years. That was the beginning of a constantly growing passion for photography. I bought my first camera ever, and after a year I was teaching smaller groups of pupils photography 2-3 hours a week, this in addition to the subjects I normally teach, English and History . The following year I also began as a freelancer in local newspapers, not only writing articles , but also taking pictures. At this stage I mostly photographed people, both privately, at school and on my occasional assignments as a journalist.

It was when I bought my first digital camera some five years ago that I, as a photographer, eventually discovered nature. Since then photography for me has meant nothing else but nature photography . I am drawn towards the dark and the mysterious, but can also be an emotional minimalist, or , when I`m in the mood for it, use strongly saturated and even exaggerated colours . I many respects I am more of a picture maker than a photographer, because I normally have a tendency to let my pictures undergo various degrees of Photoshop treatment. I am not very technically inclined, and have no need for expensive and advanced cameras. The majority of my pictures so far are shot with fairly simple compact cameras.
